Try to find labels that are interesting or cool from a legal perspective, as the main purpose is to support our law firm. It is difficult to define a “cool” approval just as it is difficult to define a “cool” person. We can give you guidance, but if this job is right for you, you will know it when you see it. While “legally interesting or controversial” is the foremost criteria, other good categories are: labels with great/witty/funny writing; visually interesting labels; labels showing unusual ingredients; labels related to a famous person.
We will pay $10 per label, or $25 per published post, if we use your specific idea.** There is no limit to the number of posts/labels you can submit, but we will only pay for the ones we actually use. We strongly suggest that you focus on labels approved from January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2007. This is because we have carefully reviewed the labels from January 1, 2008 through current — so your odds are much better if you review the time period before that.
The average post would be rather short, with a link to the “cool” approval. It could take as little as a few minutes per post, if you are good at it. We’d like to find 5-10 regular contributors, and we already have a few.*** We are doing this to solidify our position as a leading law firm in this specific area; we have handled thousands of new product approvals during the past 20 years.
If you are still interested, please start preparing some posts. Send drafts or links by email. If you need guidance, please let us know and we will try to provide feedback and refine this document in the months ahead. We are happy to provide lots of feedback if you read this carefully; but if it appears that you did not read this, we probably will not respond (because we are getting many emails in this regard; sorry this is so long and tedious but we are getting lots of questions about this and so we are trying to answer them here). We are online most of each day and will usually see your email immediately and respond quickly (no calls, please). Please refer this opportunity to any friends who may be especially well-suited for this; we will pay you $50 for any referrals that lead to three posts or more.****

*Try to link to the approval image itself (to get there, click on the “Printable Version” link of the COLA Detail page). In other words, this is much better than this.
**Paid via PayPal within 15 days of using or agreeing to use your post. We are happy to credit you by name if you wish, with a link and short bio. We reserve the right to edit. You may cross-link to another blog if you wish. We will try to follow the policy in effect as of the moment you send the ideas, and it may change over time.
***We will be happy to name you as a regular contributor upon posting three or more of your submissions. We will use your full name (and a link) to credit you for all posts and ideas that we use (unless you affirmatively ask us to use less than your full name). Please be aware that it is common for us to get the same label from many people; we will keep track of who was first and pay only the first person.
****You would need to cc the referral to us, so it’s documented, and you or your friend would need to remind us upon the third post.
