Here are three more Sorelli labels. This time, the lady is getting annoyed. A few days ago we showed the first four Sorelli labels in this series, and in the next post we will finish up with a few more. Click below for the full label:
These made me laugh. Sorelli is a series of about a dozen Tuscan wines imported by Monsieur Touton Selection of New York, New York. Almost every one in the series is funny and well-executed. The main images from the first four labels are above and we will show most of the others during the next week. Click below for the full label: let the games beginContinue Reading Leave a Commentwine

The last two posts showed beverage packaging that serves the extra function of lighting up. Drink’n’Stick doesn’t just sit there on the shelf, passively. It is a wine package that beckons you to dress, or undress, the pin-up model. Like Quickie, this is another great one from Vine Street Imports and Some Young Punks. The latter website says:
Few wines come with instructions — this one also comes with a wardrobe. Peel the clothing from the sheet to customize the accompanying temptress as you drink.
Wine Girl has a good slide show and description. She said:
I was distracted for a full hour by just the bottle. … There is a Bettie Page-esque pin-up girl on the label. There’s also a plastic strip that you can carefully unwrap to reveal that our Bettie is actually the equivalent of a paper doll. The plastic strip has all sorts [of] clothing on it. I think I tried almost every possible combination on Bettie before settling on a ruffly shirt and crop pants. Ladies, there are even scarves and hair bows.

Famous Songs
The last post covered some of the most famous singers ever to appear on alcohol beverage labels. Today, we go off in search of the most famous songs to appear on such labels. Not the most famous songs about booze; that’s a big topic for another day. There are so many labels paying tribute to so many songs. I am sure the astute reader can find examples more famous than those above, but these three are mighty famous, and appear on this list of the greatest rock songs. Rosalita is red wine produced and bottled by Aspect Wines of San Francisco, California. It pays tribute to the Bruce Springsteen song. Hotel California is Tequila imported by Sipping Spirits of Glastonbury, Connecticut. It pays tribute to the Eagles song. It has no overt reference to Tequila but Henley, Frey and Felder apparently did not read CFR Title 27 carefully; they wantonly mingle wine and spirits, singing:
So I called up the captain, “Please bring me my wine” He said, “We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”
And Margaritaville of course pays tribute to the famous Jimmy Buffett song. The song is pretty much drenched in Tequila and Buffett still owns the rights to this name.

Elvis Still Moving Wine
Over the years we’ve seen a lot of extremely famous names on wine labels. Madonna and Justin Timberlake come to mind. Who is most famous of all? More famous than Ernest Gallo or August Busch or Jack Daniel? Elvis Presley has got to be one of the most famous people ever to adorn a wine label. There is no word on whether he liked wine, cared about wine, knew anything about wine — but the press release for these wines says: “according to a recent Harris Interactive poll, over 71 million Americans consider themselves Elvis fans.” Most of the Elvis-branded wines seem to be bottled by Adler Fels Winery of Santa Rosa, California, under an agreement with Signature Wines and Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE). Signature “signed an exclusive licensing agreement with EPE several years ago.” EPE is “aggressively involved in a worldwide licensing program, merchandising, music publishing, and television, film, video and Internet projects.” TTB approved Blue Suede Chardonnay and The King Cabernet Sauvignon in January of 2009.

Striking Syrah
The imagery is still striking, after all these years. Don’t you think? So much so, I am surprised that lots of alcohol beverage companies have not used this image in the past. It is also surprising that there is no TTB or other prohibition on the use of this famous image. The Library of Congress explains that the poster goes all the way back to 1916 and may be the most famous poster in the world. (More famous than Farrah?) It was used to recruit soldiers for World War I and World War II. The original poster shows “Uncle Sam,” the “national personification of the United States and sometimes more specifically of the United States government.” The wine is produced by Oreana Wine Company in Santa Barbara, California. For another, almost as famous poster used to support World War II, Rosie the Riveter is here (now in support of Oregon Dry Rosé).
